Before I begin, permit me to clarify that this is not one of those “oh I had a 2 second rash, and I want to rant to you about it” kind of piece.
This is a “I have struggled with my skin for 10+ years, and I am excited to finally find something that really works” kind of piece.
I have battled with my skin for as long as I can remember – well, since I was 12/13.
I started breaking out as soon as my body realised it had hormones in it, and I have tried nearly everything you can possibly think of to make my skin calm down, just little bit, since then.
I started with “Top Gel” as mother had recommended. There were days I would use “Lemonvate” when my acne got too bad, but rarely so because it would bleach my skin. It was more a harsh monthly treatment.
Then there was the “Nice ‘n’ Lovely” phase, that I am pretty sure every girl from my generation tried out.
I have tried all the dermatologically recommended creams – even the ones that burn when you put them on your face.
Then I graduated from what I considered the cheap stuff (for no real reason) to Pond’s creams, which worked for a minute – but only a hot minute.
You see, my skin tends to accept products, until I am hormonal, and it is breakout season again – Which is, well, every month.
I have used everything from Nivea to Garnier, Gentle magic and you name it.
I, in no way intend to discredit these brands, but they just did not solve my skin problems as I would have wished.
in June of 2017, I started breaking out again. I had not been wearing much make up that year, so I knew it was a hormonal imbalance allover again.
However, this one did not know to calm down. It went on for a month or so till I could take nomore. I tried everything that I knew, to no avail. I stopped wearing make up completely. I cleaned my face twice or thrice a day. I kept my hands away from my face. I toned. Everything I knew to do in such times – but nothing worked.
When I start breaking out, the first step for me is to get off make up!
It almost seems like simple logic. If I am simply hormonal, it will be one or two pimples/blackheads at most. This normally lasts no longer than 3-7 days a month.
If my breakout is worse than this, I look into what I have been using on my face. I check what is new in my routine, then start eliminating my products one at a time to see which one is the problem.
This normally works, and I normally have to identify a new product to replace the one causing me problems. That was my routine. My routine till June of 2017.
When I got the wild hormonal imbalance which just kept getting worse, I remembered my friend, Wiza, recommending the soap “Dudu Osun Black Soap”, and at a desperate time, even with my reservations about the name, I had to try it. I had to wait it out and see what it could do for me, and truly I was not disappointed. A few days and all my pimples dried out and started healing, which was the first step for me. I eliminated everything else, which meant that I was only using the soap on my face.
I will say though that the soap tends to dry out your skin, so I complement it with baby oil (any kind really) or nivea lotion which has worked very well for me thus far. I would advise people with drier skin to stay away from any kind of black soap.
When you are using the soap for the first time, you are likely to feel a slight tingle on your skin. It is normal (and from my experience means the soap is working).
Most have written reviews (good and bad) about African black soap. I would advise you to read all about (particularly) the negative effects of using black soap, and decide if you still want to use it. In my case, I made a choice that the pros outweigh the cons.

Dudu really works, used to have problems too with acne and black spots but everything changed after I found Dudu.
