I have worked with Sunbird Hotels and Resorts since 2018, and I have several reasons to love the hotels. I wrote this article in 2018, at the beginning of our partnership; and I wanted to maintain the authenticity of the post; while adding my recent reviews about the hotels.
Here are 10 of the reasons I love Sunbird Hotels and Resorts:
1. It reminds me of home.
I know this is an odd point to make but I grew up in Mangochi District, Maldeco Fisheries to be precise which happens to be very close to Nkopola Lodge under Sunbird. I grew up going to Nkopola for right about anything – A swim, a meal, some relaxation, most times weddings and even just to buy airtime. My parents settled a few hundred metres from the Hotel so I will always associate Sunbird with a little nolstagia and a sence of home.
2. They have 8 Hotels and Lodges around the country!
They are the biggest chain of Hotels in Malawi with services that are simply above standard. I have visited each and every one of their locations except for the Majete Game Reserve, something I hope to do before the year ends. If I was thinking of touring Malawi, SUnbird would therefore be so efficient for me to move to and from different places as they are available right about everywhere!
3. Sunbird is diverse.
If you are thinking of a beach vacation, think Sunbird. If you are thinking of a riverside/mountaneous/wildlife vacation, Sunbird is with you; if you just need a little time out within the city, Sunbird is with you. That is a diversity that I have grown to appreciate as at different point in our lives, we need different ways to relax and Sunbird knows to come along with you through it all.
4. Stunning beaches and Pool areas!
You know if I am talking about travel, a beach will more than likely be involved. Sunbird boasts some beautiful beaches at Nkopola Lodge and Livingstonia Beach. I will always remember Livingstonia Beach for the beautiful purple Sands. I love Salima for that and the long stretch at Livingstonia gives me just that!
I have dreamt of having my wedding at a Sunbird Hotel (I will not tell you which one) for a long time and I think it will be as dreamy as I want it to be.
5. The traditional Cuisines
Now I obviously love food and I have no complaints to give regards the food at Sunbird. I personally have never been disappointed, but even more amazing was is th Traditional Friday and Wednesday Lunch buffet option they have. If you are looking to get lost in Malawian food, do stop by the buffet at the Sunbird Hotels on these days. To die for!
6. The remodelled rooms
The Hotels are in the process of remodelling some of their rooms to fit a more modern set up.Even though I love their rooms as they are now, I think that remodelled cottages will be even more on trend.
7. Customer Care
The Sunbird staff has always been warm and lovely. As a friend of mine recently told me, “I have realised that most of my problems are solved by just asking” and that is what the staff at the hotels are for. They are always there to assist you when you have some inquisitions.
8. The Breakfast Buffet
Yes I will always be a sucker for buffets, and even more so when they provide all the things I love. Sunbird has some lovely options at their breakfast layout and I simply enjoy myself choosing whatever I want.
My mother says the Mzuzu Hotel Breakfast Buffet is to die for and I always trust her word! I am yet to try it out for myself.
9. The Conference Services
Sunbird Hotels have some rather big conference facilities which are perfect for meetings and gatherings. When I am well established Business Mogul I will definitely be hosting my meetings right there, most likely at the beach!
10. Gym Provision
Now I know when you are on vacation, in as much as you would love to forget about the world and just let loose, there is still that burning desire to not gain all the weight in the world and onsite gyms always take that stress away. Sunbird Livingstonia has a gym right next to the reception, something which Nkopola Lodge has also just finished working on incorporating in its system.
Mount Soche also boasts a very well equipped gym.
